Thursday meeting


MINUTES OF THE MAY 16th MEETING OF THE PORT KIWANIS
   
  MAY 16 , 2006                                              No.33 , 2005-2006
   
  NEXT MEETING: Tuesday May 23 rd at 6:30 P.M. at Nisleits in Knellsville.
  Jerry Wiskow will have the Speaker , a  Massage Therapist.
   
  MEETING: The meeting was called to order by Pres. Dan Hargarten at 7:15 P.M.
  Attendance-------19 Members and 3 guests. Lowell brought his wife Pat , Karen
brought her friend T. Jenkins and Elmer Adam returned from Arizona. 
  Marvin is back from Sun City West. He looks rested and well tanned.

  Drawing-------Won by our guest T. Jenkins who drew her own number. 
  $11.00 to the club.
   
  ANNOUNCEMENTS:
  1. Roof on the Pavilion--Start at 8:00A.M. Saturday May 20th. Anyone who thinks
they can be of help are welcome to assist.
  2.Aluminum Can Recepticles----Some have been assembled and are awaiting labeling.
As soon as this is done they will be put in spots around the city.
  3. Foundation Meeting------The Foundation will be matching the members
contribution to Childrens Hospital, about $890:00.The Foundation received $500
from the District for our scholarship award.
  4. Kiwanis Disc Golf Tournament---Will be held in Amundson Park in Stoughton,Wi.
on Sat. ,June 10th. I have registration papers if interested.
  5. A letter from Kenny and Jenny Mitchell---On why they have missed several
meetings , Kenny's  grandfather passd away in Detroit and then they are going to
Alaska for Jenny's brother's wedding. Once Memorial Day passes they will be back.
  6. Letter from Zach Nault thanking us for honoring him at the High Honors Banquet
and for sending him to Badger Boys State.
  7. Review the By-Laws.---- A committee of Paul Ehrlich, Lowell Tainter and Ralph
Hess will review them and adjust them to our clubs' needs, they will then be sent
to International for approval.
  8. Fish Day------After 17 years as chairman of the Fish Day Committee, John
Sigwart has found someone to take his place. Gene Giltner has volunteered to 
steer the ship to greater heights. WAY TO GO GENE!!!
  9.Nominees for Officer Positions for the 2006---2007 year are: 
  President---------------------------------John Sigwart
  President Elect------------------------Sally S. Ehrlich
  Secretary--------------------------------Weldon N. Reed
  Treasurer---------------------------------Dennis Williamson
  The election will be Tuesday May 23rd at Nisleit's. The floor will be open to
further nominations at that time.
  Club Board---The Officers plus the following; 3 yr. term,  Mike Ehrlich and Kenny
Mitchell; 2 yr. term, Jeff Callies and Jerry Wiskow ; 1 yr. term Grace Eernisse
and Donna Janisch.
  Foundation Board-----3 yr. term , Ralph Hess, Lowell Tainter and Marc Eernisse;
  2 yr. term , George Lampert ,Mardy McGarry and Paul Quail; 1 yr. Jim Olson , Barb
Kobishop and Paul Ehrlich
   
  GOOD NEWS: Eleven attendees had good news and contributed $13:00.
   
  PROGRAM: Grace Eernisse introduced her husband Marc , a fourth generation
Firefighter, who  is Chairman of a project to construct a Firefighter Memorial at
the south east corner of the present firehouse in Port Washington. Marc gave a
very detailed presentation of the 154 year history of the fire company. Marc had a
 picture which Paul Ehrlich assisted in the design. Over the years two fire
fighters have lost their lives fighting fires in Port. Fund raising will begin
soon in an effort to raise the $45,000 needed for the project. Bricks may be
purchased in 4"X 8" or 8" X 8" sizes for prices up to $500.
  It was a very interesting program ,Grace. As Marc said, he could talk for hours on
the history of how the Fire Department has progressed from a horse drawn pumper to
the high priced super pumpers of today. Sometime later Marc.
   
  Meeting Adjourned at 8:15 P.M.
   
  CALENDAR OF EVENTS: Tuesday May 23rd at 6:30 P.M. at Nisleit's. Tues. May 30th at
the Parkside Deli in Saukville (need a speaker).
  Board Meeting---Saturday June 10th at 8 A.M. at the Rusty Anchor.
