Tuesday Night Meeting

MINUTES OF THE SEPTEMBER 4th MEETING OF THE PORT KIWANIS
 
September 04 ,2007                                          No. 48 , 2006-2007.
 
NEXT MEETING: Board meeting Saturday, Sept. 8th at 8 A.M at the Rusty Anchor.
Foundation Meeting at 5:45 P.M. Tues. , Sept. 11th before the club meeting.
Club meeting Tues. Sept. 11th at 6:30 P.M. at Nisleit's. Lee is scheduled to have the  speaker.
 
MEETING: The meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by Pres. John Sigwart.
Attendance----------17 members and Scott Ewig the 837 Scou Troop  leader who is the speaker of the evening.
Prayer------------------By Marc Eernisse.
Pledge------------------Led by Scott Ewig.
Song--------------------America The Beautiful , Led by Scott.
Drawing----------------Won by Carol Boehle. $8 to the club.
Thought---------------By Pres. John. Don't do today what you can put off until tomorrow.
Auction----------------Pres. John had two new Packer pencils with large erasers. Gene couldn't
resist them and bid $6:00. Good buy, Gene.
 
GOOD NEWS: About 6 people had good news.
 
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. Marc Eernisse's sister is terminal. He and Grace left early to be with her. Our prayers go out to her and the family.
2. Lowell reported that the benches and table have been installed at the Overlook. We hope to get it named for Past Mayor "George Lampert".
3. Improvement at the Kiwanis Pavilion is underway. A design will be presented to the Foundation.
4.Roger Strohm's wife delivered a 9 lb 15 oz. girl. Mother and child are doing fine. Roger not so well.
5.Possibility Playground sign has been erected at the site.
6. Samantha Twomey the Metro Circle K Lt. Gov. will be at our board meeting on Sat. to talk about starting a club at Concordia Un.
7. Committee to look into replacing support to Childrens Hospital with another program.
8. Lowell reported that another $500 has been received for the Alexis Peifer Fund.
9. Key Club , Officers are meeting. Club meeting will be Tues. the 11th.
10. Sept. 21st & 22 , Paramount Blues Festival in Grafton.
11. Pres. John met a couple in Rotary Park , Mike and Sue Corbin who live in Port and have recently retired. They seem very interested in joining Kiwanis. John gave the info to Helen our membership chair. "Always be careful how you speak to strangers, they may be ANGELS".
 
PROGRAM : Ralph introduced Boy Scout Troop 837 Leader Scott Ewig. Scott and Ralph brought us up to date on this being the 70 th year of the continuous connection of our club and the Troop. Ralph feels that this may be the longest continuous club in the state.
Scott told of some of the Troops projects and thanked us for our support over the years. Many of Kiwanis members were scouts and many of their children reached EAGLE .
We are proud to be associated with such a fine group.
 
CALENDAR OF EVENTS: Wednesday , Sept. 5th. Meals on Wheels ( Weldon & Louise).
Sat. Sept. 8th ,Board at 8 A.M. at the RUSTY ANCHOR.
Tues. Sept. 11th FOUNDATION at 5:45 P.M. at Nisleits.
Tues.Sept. 11th club meeting at Nisleit's at 6:30 P.M. Lee ,speaker.
