Minutes for 2007-08-28

Tuesday Meeting

MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 28th MEETING OF THE PORT KIWANIS

August 28 , 2007                                               No. 47, 2006- 2007

NEXT MEETING: Tuesday September 4 th at 6:30 P.M. at Nisleit's.
Ralph Hess is scheduled for a speaker.
Board Meeting Saturday September 8th at 8.A.M. at The Rusty Anchor.

MEETING: The Meeting was called to order by President John Sigwart at 7:10 P.M. 
Attendance----------23 members and four guests, Lee brought Susan McCormick, Mardy
brought Stacy Peters the Possibility Playground fund raiser Chair person, Geoff
Giltner brought Jane Eernisse and Elmer Adam has moved to Harbor Village and plans
to reinstate his long time membership in Kiwanis.
Prayer----------By Gene Giltner.
Pledge----------Led by a young brother and sister from the Possibility Playground
Group.
Song--------Wait Til The Sun Shines Nellie.
Drawing--------Won by Denny Williamson.
$14 to the club.

PROGRAM: About 20 adults and children from the Possibility Playground Group  came to
the meeting to thank the Club for all the work we have done toward getting the
Playground Program going. Lisa Dickmann gave the Thank You  presentation.
As I said before two of the children led us in the Pledge of Allegience. Later 12 of
the children did a dance routine to entertain us. We gave them a rousing round of
applause as they bid us fairwell.

GOOD NEWS:
Twelve members chipped in with their dollar and storys of Good News.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. Fish Day final report:
Total Revenue---------$30,350.21
Costs----------------------$18,887.47
Net--------------------------$11,462.74
2. A baby girl Brook Elizabeth was born to Jenny and Kenny Mitchell. All turned out
well and we send our regards to Jenny and Kenny.
3. Roger Strohm is due to become a father this week also. Congrats to the family
,Roger.
4. Grace Eernisse has been ill . We all hope you have a rapid recovery, Grace.
5.Maritime Days Report: Karen reported that we netted $38.60 . We all had a good
time running the stand. Cool weather put a damper on our Sno-Cone sales. Next year
we may add Nachos.
6,Another $25 was donated to the Alexis Pfiefer fund.We will decide at the Board
meeting where it should go.
7.We received a letter from Samantha Twomey a student at Marquette Un. who is the
Metro, Circle K Lt. Gov. She asks if she can come to our Sept. 8th Board meeting to
dicuss starting a Circle K club at Concordia Un.  We will invite her and suggest
that she bring another representative with her. If not the 8th then to our club
meeting on the 11th.
She suggests that perhaps we could co-sponsor with The North Shore club. This will
be considered.
8. Childrens Hospital -- The members contributed $505. We expect that the Foundation
will match this. Ralph  feels that this may be our last  Childrens hospital fund
raiser due to changes in the National Program and our shift to other projects.
9.Lake Michigan Overlook; A 14 yearold Eagle scout is going to the Port Common
Council to ask that the Overlook be named George Lampert Overlook. Paul Ehrlich will
go with him.
