Tuesday Meeting

MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 14th MEETING OF THE PORT KIWANIS

August 14 , 2007                                                No.45 , 2006-2007

NEXT MEETING: Tuesday August 21st at 6:30 P.M. at Nisleits. Jerry Wiskow will have
the Speaker.

MEETING: The meeting was called to order at 7:10 P.M. by Pres. John Sigwart.
Attendance----------16 members,5 guests from the Greater Sheboygan Club , and the
two speakers of the evening.
Prayer----------By Paul Ehrlich
Pledge---------Led By Pres. John.
Song--------- When Kiwanis Calls.
Drawing------Won by Marvin. $11 to the club.

GOOD NEWS: Lots of hands went up tonite. The members had lots of fun telling of the
good news they had encountered.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: 
1. Pres. John introduced our newest member Carol Boekle. She got a big round of
applause.
2.Inter -club-----On the 28th Mike Lunser of the Lakeshore Sunrise Club will bring a
group to our meeting.
3.Lampert Lookout---$600 has been given to the project out of the $1200 designated
for the bench and plantings. Pres. John will ask about the naming.
4.Kiwanis Convention is Sept. 14 - 16 at the Kalahari. Tonight we elected John
Sigwart and Paul Ehrlich to be our Delegates at the convention. Motion to do so by
Helen , Second by Bob Koch. Unanimous yea.
The Secretary is sending the delegate sheet to the WI-UM Office tomorrow.
5. KEY CLUB--New board for the 2007-2008 year consists of Kate Ruth--Pres. ; Amy
Gonzo - V.P. ; Secretary Josh Koopman ; Treasurer Kerry LeBlanc.
It was discussed to have one board and another member attend our meeting once a
month at our expense.
6. SPANFERKEL--Monday August 27at 5:30 P.M. at New Holstein. We'll try to get a
4-some . Must be in by Aug.24th.

Program: Paul Ehrlich introduced Nina Walker , Pres. of Ozaukee County Jail Literacy
Program,Inc. and Jane Goffin Administrative Liaison. They told of the program that
was started in 1992 to help inmates over the age of 18 get a GED or High School
Equivalency diploma. This is no easy program and only those who dedicate themselves
to achieve this goal are allowed to enroll and stay in the program.
Over the years about 200 have achieved this goal.
It was a very interesting program and it is supported by donations not by tax payers.
