MINUTES OF THE JUNE 19th MEETING OF THE PORT KIWANIS

June 19 , 2007                                               No. 38 , 2006-2007

NEXT MEETING: Tuesday June 26th at 6:30 P.M. at Nisleit's. Paul and Sally will have
the program on the Habitat for Humanity.

MEETING: The meeting was called to order by President John Sigwart at 7:10 P.M.
Attendance15 members and the Speaker of the evening ,Kim McCullough from Portico.

Pledge ------Led by Pres. John.
Song--------- No Song.
Drawing-----Won by Lowell. $7 to the club.

GOOD NEWS: About 6 members had good news last week.

AGENDA: 
1. Open House at the Municipal Garage. Several of our members manned a booth
explaining the community project of the Barrier Free Playground on Saturday. A lot
of interest was generated.
2. Possibility Playground Carnival & Picnic On The Bluff. Friday June 22nd from
4:30-8:30 P.M. Help needed to set up and work a shift.
3. Maritime Fest-- Karen suggested that we set up a booth at the Fest  being held
downtown Port the first weekend of August. We will look into it and offer to
participate.

Program: Kim McCullough of Portico spoke to us about Pirate Fest, what it is, how it
is organized , where the Pirates come from, the object which is to bring people into
Port which inturn will enhance the businesses, and how it has grown over the past
three years.
She indicated that the latest attendance was about 20,000 people. The food stands
sold out. The beer and drinks went exceedingly well. Kim thought that we could
participate with a stand. The fee is $200 less 30% for service clubs. We seem to be
very interested in participating and will have the Fund Raising Committee look into
it . The sooner the better.

Pirate Fest is always the 1st weekend in June. There is a Website which alerts
interested participants all over thw country , www.PiratePortico.com. There are also
20,000 post cards sent to prospective participants.

CALENDAR OF EVENTS:
Tuesday June 26th club meeting at Nisleits at 6:30 P.M. Program is Habitat. THERE
WILL NOT BE A MEETING ON JULY 3rd. You may do a Round Table if so desired.
