MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 21st MEETING OF THE PORT KIWANIS
Nov. 21 , 2006 No. 8 , 2006-2007
NEXT MEETING: Tuesday Nov. 28th at 6:30 P.M. at Nisleits. We are getting a speaker.
MEETING: The meeting was called to order at 7:05 P.M. by Pres. John Sigwart.
Attendance-----15 Members and 3 guests. THe guests were Bud Miser, Kenny Matthews
and his wife Nora.
Prayer-------By Bud Miser.
Pledge-----Led by Pres. John.
Song------Greatest Time Of THe Year "DEER HUNTING" Dan and Sally.
Drawing------Won by Denny Williamson,$7 to the club.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. Board Meeting is Sat. Dec. 9th at the Rusty Anchor.
2.Community Activities----Need a Chair Person. Pres. John says we will have one by
the Nov. 28th meeting.
3. Membership-- We hope to be able to get the Coach of the "Milwaukee Wave " soccer
team as a speaker and invite the many Soccer Moms and Dads.
Membership nights have been designated as the 2nd Tues. of Jan. and the 2nd Tues. of
Feb.
4. Key Club contact--Jeff Callies.
5. Builders Club Contact---Lowell , Jerry and Mardy have contact with our Advisor,
Jeanne Maciejewski.
6. Governor's Banquet will be in West Bend on Saturday January 13th.
7. Christmas Party. We will be collecting items that can be used by the children and
adult residents at the advocates. A list will be coming. Do not wrap them They will
be put in a large box, wrapped and delivered by 3 Elves. The Party is scheduled for
Tuesday Dec. 5th at 5:30 P.M. The High School Madrigal singers will perform for us.
We will present them with a monetary gift fot their trip to Italy.
There will also bea silent auction of fine gifts donated by the Eernisse's and others.
8. KIWANIS UNIVERSITY---Feb. 17th at Stevens Point. John will attend.
9. Once a quarter dining at another restaurant---- Jerry Wiskow has contacted the
new Paramount Restaurant in Grafton. The cost is $14 for a very good meal,
coffee,tea,tax and tip included. The vote to go was about 50/50. We will discuss it
later.
10. Clean the highway---Notify the Hwy Dept. that we will start again in the spring.
11. Peanut day results. Money still coming in.
12. Playground----Park-Rec. Board to designate area by Dec.14th.
GOOD NEWS: Lots of good news. Denny will give us a Good News accounting at the end
of the month.
PROGRAM: Weldon introduced Kenny Matthews a Veteran who was involved in a tragic
accident about 3 years ago which resulted in his becoming a paraplegic. A Veteran
with a spinal cord injury can receive treatment from the Veterans administration.
Kenny has been able to participate in the wheelchair athletic activities offered in
the treatment programs. Some of these are Wheel Chair Rugby, track events and
swimming. This May and June the World Wheel Chair Olympics are being held in
Milwaukee. Although the VA sponsors the event $300,000 in donations are needed to be
raised. This has nearly been accomplished. Any contributions the club or indivduals
make will be greatly appreciated.
Kenny gave a very good presentation. It only goes to show what positive thinking can
do !!!
