MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 29th MEETING OF THE PORT KIWANIS
 
August 29, 2006                                              No. 48 , 2005-2006
 
NEXT MEETING: Tuesday Sept. 5th at 6:30 P.M. at Nisleit's. The speaker will be 9 year old Amanda Henkle who is a youth ambassador to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. She is the Speaker for Roger Strom.
The Board meeting is Sept. 9th at 8 A.M. at the Rusty Anchor.
The Foundation Meeting will be Tues. Sept.12th at 5:45 P.M. at Nisleit's.
 
 
MEETING:  The meeting was called to order at 7:15 P.M. by Pres. Dan Hargarten.
Attendance---------21 Members and the Speaker Mark Mitchell, The Port Fire Chief.
Prayer:------------By Marc Eernisse.
Pledge------------Led by Pres. Dan.
Song -------------Happy Birthday to both Lowell and Jerry.
Drawing----------Won by Louise. $10 to the club.
 
 
Membership: Geoff Giltner filed for membership tonight. Welcome aboard Geoff and good luck on your studies at MATC!!
 
PROGRAM: Marc Eernisse introduced the Port Fire Chief Mark Mitchell. Mark is a Fire Apparatus Buff. He has thousands of photos of fire houses and fire fighting equipment from all over the U.S.  Mark showed us slides of the evolution of the fire fighting equipment ,the many different designs, even the color schemes used in different places. It was a very interesting 30 minutes that covered many aspects of fire fighting and showed the enthusiasm that Mark has in assembling the history which he showed us.
Thanks Marc for bringing Mark!!!.
 
GOOD NEWS: The following had Good News to the tune of $10. Dan , Louise , Gene , John  , Lowell , Elmer , Jerry ,and Ralph.
 
FISH DAY:  The bottom Line = $8788.47.
 
Suggestions are welcomed on how to improve on Fishday---
1. Set up a beer garden in the green space East of the Pavilion.
2. Tent over the beer garden.
3. Relocate the beer truck.
4. Have a raffle and chairperson.
5. Mount fryers on the trailor.
6. Rework the Breakers.
ANYTHING ELSE THAT YOU CAN THINK OF!!!!!
