FUTURE FIRE FIGHTERS VISIT

Port Washington’s fire department sponsors Boy Scout Explorer Post 9110 so that Port youth both male and female

have an opportunity to experience the life of a fire fighter.

Post President Joe Debore, a student at Marquette,

Explained that this is part of the Boy Scouts of America program “Learning for Life”.

                   MISSION STATEMENT

It is the mission of Learning for Life to enable young people to become responsible individuals

by teaching positive character traits, career development, leadership, and life skills so they

can make ethical choices and achieve their full potential.

The Port post specializes in fire fighting. Other possible specialties could be: Aviation,

Business, Law Enforcement, Medical, Science, Skilled Trades and many more.

Post 9110 trains twice a month. They learn to use all the fire fighting equipment that the regular fire fighters use.

In an actual emergency situation they will assist in operations as requested by the officer in charge.

They will retrieve equipment for the fire fighters. Assist in EMS operations and help with clean up.

They can respond to any fire call before 10pm. High school students can not respond during school hours.

Pictured are Joe, advisor Dave Luft, Brian Luft and Nate Drier.

The Explorers are not allowed in burning buildings, they can not handle the hoses in an actual emergency,

and they can not respond to a car accident.

Right now the Post has 6 members and has been as high as 12 members.

Three girls just moved on one going further into fire fighting. Most members when the graduate at age 20

plan on at lest plan on volunteering again at some point.  Many go professional as EMS’s.  Our own Goeff Giltner is a volunteer and graduate of the Explorer Post.
