    TALL SHIPS TO INVADE PORT

Executive Director Sara Grover of the BID (Business Improvement District) warned us they are coming.

Actually Sara announced quite enthusiastically that 5 tall ships will be coming to visit during Port’s Maritime Heritage Festival this year August 15th through the 17th.

The ships , which are part of the International Tour of Tall Ships, will be the centerpiece of the weekends activity. Since some will have to dock on the coal dock side, this will be the public’s first opportunity to be on that side of the harbor. Tours of the ships will be conducted. Be at the lake front on the 14th of August to watch the sight of these beauties as they approach Port Washington.

Other activities for the Festival will be artisans, food and music.  Liberty Bluegrass Band will perform Saturday starting at 6 pm. And Sunday at 2 pm.            lake.

What is a BID?

Bids are areas defined by state and local legislation in which.  The properties and/or businesses within this area pay a special tax or assessment to cover the cost of providing the services for which the district has a particular need.  The benefits are that while the city provides some oversight authority the bids control the purse strings.

Other activities of the BID: Winter Maxwell Street Days, Easter Egg Hunt (with help from Kiwanis), Farmers Market, Maxwell Street Days, Harvest Fest and Christmas on the Corner. Bid also participates in Fish Day and Pirates Fest.

Bid’s measure of success is when it gets you down town.
