OZAUKEE COLUMBIA ST. MARY’S IS READY

With the emanate arrival of Aurora’s hospital in Grafton St Mary’s Hospital is sticking with their plans for growth.

Gerri Staffileno, VP of Hospital Operations/ Chief Nursing Officer of the Ozaukee campus up dated us.

Accompanying Gerri, and functioning as equipment technician, was Greg Hartzog Director of Marketing.

Some of the new exciting things going on are:

1)The completion of their 5 story bed tower this past October. This now puts them at 175 beds more than adequate for their service area which has an estimated need of 160 beds. In this new tower is an area set aside for future beds when needed.

2) Their Cardio center started in 2005 did 200 surgeries in 2007. Their target was to cut the time from chest pain to treatment to 90 minutes. That time now stands at 65 minutes.

3) In Fall of 2008 they will be opening their new cancer center.

4) They are working on a joint venture with Froedert and Community Health. The goal of their coming together are to, provide great care, control costs and insure good stewardship of community resources.

Will Aurora hurt them? Sure, all of Aurora’s  clinics will be required to send patients there if they have the coverage. Ambulances are required to go to the nearest hospital. If that hospital doesn’t have the facilities for that patients need they will then be sent to St Mary’s. This is lost time. St Mary’s is in discussions to change this. The first goal in this is if the patient is counsensus they can request that they be taken to St Mary’s.

How will Aurora’s presence drive up costs? Gerri says ‘it’s limited resources”. Most notable are Nurses which are already in short supply.
