 Eagle Scout Project

Boy Scout Henry Read was discussing possible Eagle Scout projects with his parents in Tello’s Café and Grill. Kiwanis member John Sigwart sitting at the next table overheard the conversation and suggested wheelchair accessible tables for Possibility Playground.

Henry, with Troop 815 in Mequon, accepted John’s suggestion.  With the financial support of Kiwanis and others, the project started. Including planning, soliciting of funds and the labor of fellow scouts, family and friends 70 hours produced four beautiful and solid tables.

Kiwanis President and playground founder, Mardy, presented Henry with a Possibility Playground thank you plaque.

Final Thank You

Thomas Burkhalter passed away December 23rd, 2010. Tom was a long time member, President from 1993 to 1994, and photographic historian in later years. He and Diane most recently were members of the Manitowoc Kiwanis Club. Our heart felt sympathy to Diane.

Sauk Creek Preserve Clean-Up

John Sigwart learned from a friend that the trails need some clean-up. He contacted Garry Schulla a volunteer with Ozaukee Washington Land Trust who did a presentation on the history of OWLT. Garry also welcomed our revived support for Sauk Creek.

John is suggestion our club sponsor a spring cleaning of the Preserve. Members at the meeting seemed receptive to the idea. Perhaps we can get the Key Club involved.

Elmer Adam says Hi

When I mailed a hard copy of the news letter to Elmer I ask him to let me know if he had received it.  He called me to let me know he enjoyed the news letter and looks forward to keeping up on the news of the club.

He has joined a Kiwanis club in Seattle but it’s difficult to get to. He really loves the retirement home he is in but, as he found out, being on an island requires a ferry trip to get to Seattle. The people he lives with are great and he has made many new friends.

Elmer reports he is in great health.

Coffee Discussion Successful

Mardy held a coffee and social discussion in January and as a results we had an interested guest at our last club meeting. Carol Stube who is Executive Director of Portal Industries attended. She is interested in joining and also would be interested in an Action Club.
